The road-review (2009)

A tale of a relationship between father and son, a fight just to stay alive. On the road trying to find a better life. It’s the end of days. Everything has been destroyed. No living thing left apart from a few cannibals trying to survive. Both father and son follow the road and head south throughout the movie, scrounging for whatever they can find to eat and live on. Both hungry, tired frail living rough for some time. And they only have one pistol with two bullets to keep them safe from the bad people. The only good thing about this movie was when they came across the underground hide out stocked up with food goodies, it makes u think there is light at the end of the tunnel when they come across that. But oh know the director has played this well. Even though the movie isn’t heading in any sort of direction, it makes you still keep on watching to see how this story ends.

Robert Duvall also plays a minor role. The boy wants to help everyone that he sees, offer them food and wants to be there friend. But the father is the opposite and his only concern is to keep the boy safe and Alive. He doesn’t trust anyone and he doesn’t want to help anyone either. The boy’s mother walked out on them when she knew it was the end of time. Knowing they won’t survive another winter in there home, she walked away into the cold never to return. So it was the father’s job to protect the boy. They do come across obstacles in there journey but both overcome them until the father starts coughing up blood, and is also injured with an arrow into his leg. He is left on the beach to die. And for the boy to be left on his lonesome.

But the boy comes across a family that have been following him for quite some time. A mum, dad, little boy and girl and a dog. They take him in as one of there own. And the story is concluded, not knowing what is going to happen next. 2/5 stars. I wouldn’t say it’s worth watching, because it is dragged out a little. Thumbs down from me. This is not your typical survival thriller, it’s a low-budget feel good movie. The actors used in the movie portray a telling tale, and is believable from all angles. If you have the time and patience then be my guest and watch this movie, but like I have said before it does drag on a bit and isn’t really going anywhere, the ending was a good one but still disappointing as I expected a lot more thinking the father and son will someone make it out alive on the other side, the path the director takes you on is an emotional one and your heart strings are tugged from time to time, just the bond the two have despite all the odds against them.
