Devil Wears Prada review

Ann Hathaway, plays Andrea a university graduate looking for a shot in journalism, but in order to fulfil her dream, she has been offered a position in runway. A high-end fashion magazine based in New York. And the chief editor is none other than Miranda, played by Meryl Streep. The dragon lady, no one wants to cross paths with, as she is impossible to work for, with the numerous endless tasks she gives her assistant. She embarks into the skyscraper of a building, looking like she’s just got out of bed, with no sense of fashion or style, and doesn’t have a clue about runway or who the editor is. But Miranda gives her the benefit of the doubt, and takes a chance and hires her. She goes through ups and downs, during the course of the film, only for her personal life to.

End up in flames. She proves Miranda wrong by becoming the assistant she always wanted, and measuring up to her first assistant, Emily. She gets invited to all the events including Paris. Only to find out Miranda truly will put anyone under the bus just to get ahead in the game herself. She does finally end up walking out in the end. With lessons learnt along the way. However when she does end up going to an interview to her next workplace she does get a good reference from Miranda herself. This movie is a feel good chick flick. That doesn’t fail to dissapoint. Thumbs up from me. Well done to the cast of this movie.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 came out this year in 2026, and I must say it was disappointing to say the least, as nothing can top the original storyline. Fair points bringing back all the main cast, and the acting was on Par, however the storyline this time round did not cut it. For the sake of making a sequel a lot more effort should have gone into the plot this time round, they did bring in some fresh faces to make it more appealing to the gen z generation, however it was nothing to write home about. And they made Miranda more friendly in the sequel, she was known in the original for her cut-throat, no chances given demeanour and that is why the first movie was such a big hit, even Emily was more subdued in this movie which was a big shame. And they didn’t even bring back the boyfriend in this one, which I know they had split and gone there separate ways, however he should have had a cameo role in it.

All in all, if you are looking for a girly binge-watching slumber with your besties, these two movies should definetley be on your list, despite the sequel being unmemorable, watching them both back to back with the girlies is a must. It does attract audiences from all walks of life, and whoever is into the fashion, ambitious New York hip scene, these two movies should be ones to watch. Enjoy!
